He is friendly and enjoys nothing more than snoozing at your feet while watching TV. Big Boy is around 7 years old and weighs 103 lbs. Please fill out an application if you are interested in Big Boy. Cocoa #23 is a 4 year old female purebred chocolate labrador. In typical lab fashion, this girl has not missed a meal and she does need to loose a few pounds. She was surrendered by her owner due to relocation and she could not have dogs in her new condo, so Cocoa has found herself without a home. She is a very sweet and loving dog. She rides really well in the car. She seems to gravitate to women and children and just a little leery of men at the initial greeting. She didn't seems to have a problem with a cat that was in a cat carrier. She has a little dermatitis which we are taking care of but other than this, she is in great physical shape. For additional information about Cocoa #23 please email Ann Hilchey at ann.hilchey@labs4rescue.org. Cocoa #23 is being fostered in Connecticut. Jacks #2 is a gorgeous 1.5 year old boy who has a sweet temperament. He loves meeting new people, adores other dogs and is great with kids, but would greatly benefit from being in a home with someone who is retired or works part-time to help reinforce good manners. He needs a lot of attention and has some separation anxiety so a house with older and more independent kids would be good in order for him to get the attention he needs. He is a great walking partner and has learned to walk well with a harness. He is house-trained and crate-trained. Hi, I’m Janae (Greek meaning for God has answered) a 4 year old black female labbie girl who was training to become a narcotics dog. At the end of my training, I and my handler lost interest, so I went into retirement, so you see I'm pretty smart! The past year I was kept in a kennel with minimal human contact, which was terrible. No one cared about me anymore, until my foster mom picked me and brought me into her nice warm home. I have lots of energy but it is because now I can run/play. I get along great with other dogs, cat tested and approved, crate trained, housebroken and just want to be loved. I love daycare because I get to play with other dogs all day long. I walk ok on a leash, I’m a little stubborn and I will sit when I don’t want to walk anymore. I’m a great dog that would love a home of my own. Will you adopt me? For additional information about Janae please email Ann Hilchey at ann.hilchey@labs4rescue.org. Kaylee #5 was born on 7/18/2017 under a house with her littermates. When she was 9 days old she was taken with her mom and littermates to a shelter. There she spent the next three months growing and playing like any normal pup would do or so everyone thought. One day when she was checked on, she wasn't walking normal. The techs thought maybe her littermate who was much bigger than her had hurt her somehow. They sent her to their vet for evaluation and x-rays. Based on the notes the vet stated at the time that Kaylee had right rear leg lateral patellar luxation lame left rear leg, severe lateral patellar luxation, x-ray VD pelvis/spine with stifle compression at L7 sacrum. Lumbar spine no obvious fractures and they kept her through the weekend and gave her laser treatment. Once it was confirmed by the vet that the laser treatment didn't appear to be helping they sent her back to the shelter with a recommendation of euthanizing her due to there being nothing the vet could do to help her. The shelter contacted us because she simply couldn't put such a lively, playful pup down without giving her a chance. So, we took Kaylee into our rescue and immediately took her to our vet for xrays and his opinion. He felt we should see a specialist about her hind legs because this wasn't something he really had a lot of expertise in but the important factor was for now she was not displaying signs of pain and she was walking and when it comes to running (which she doesn't do alot) she will bunny hop with her back legs together. Kaylee will need to see a specialist so that we make the best decision for her medically. Kaylee is a very happy pup and obviously doesn't know she is a little different from all her playmates at our house. She rolls around and plays she simply doesn't race around the house. She loves other dogs and loves her bed in her crate. She will normally go to her crate around 7 in the evening and stay there most of the night. I don't know that I have ever heard her bark more than a few times but she really enjoys grunting and making all kinds of noises like she is trying to communicate. She has no problem pulling herself up on the sofa and laying in your lap and going to sleep either. Please ask us all about Kaylee! For additional information about Kaylee #5 please email Shana Luzusky at shana2576@gmail.com. Koko #3 was found by an older couple who loved her. They could not afford to take her to the vet so they turned her over to us. Koko has an issue with her left shoulder. It turns in from an old injury it appears. You would never know it was a problem for her since she runs and plays and even digs in the dirt at times. Koko is sweet and loves everone, two or four legged. She will be seen by a specialist. If you are interested in Koko please fill out an application. December 28, 2017 Update from Koko's Foster Mom: Koko has an absolutely wonderful, loving, Labrador personality. She is great with kids and I would be comfortable for her to be around children of all ages. She is excellent with cats and loves other dogs. She enjoys car rides and going for hikes. Koko is calm in the house, she lays down in whatever room I'm in. She doesn't grab and chew thing that aren't hers. She's housetrained and crate trained, although she doesn't need to be crated. She sleeps all night without a sound. She doesn't have food aggression and doesn't beg when I'm eating. Koko pulls and needs more work on her leash training. Meet Lil Luke #31! Luke is an approximately 2-3 year old, petite 30 lb, male, chocolate lab mix. Luke is fully grown so the perfect size for an apartment, smaller home or family looking for a pocket sized Lab! Luke is a gentleman, a warrior and a work in progress all rolled in to one hidden gem of a package. This poor guy was rescued out of an abusive hoarding situation which left some emotional scarring that needs to be patiently and gently addressed. He is making great strides and is doing much better since being with his foster family. He enjoys romps in the yard with his foster fur sisters and loves to end the day cuddled with foster mom on the couch doing some Netflixing. Kisses are rare but they are coming more often, as he still is playing hard to get. Physically he is healthy and eats well. Luke is learning to walk with his leash but starts out a little nervous. He is housebroken and learning commands. He loves his toys and chewy bones. I believe Luke would thrive best with no small human children. He would adore a family with other young dogs. Please contact us if you would like Luke to join your family! For additional information about Luke #31 please email Deb Cook Keavy at deb.cook.keavy@labs4rescue.org. Rose #7 is a 13 month old black female Labrador/hound mix. She weighs in at about 45 lbs, so she will not be a very big dog. She is very very sweet and loves people but she needs to learn to trust. We understand from talking to animal control that she cannot wear anything around her neck as there was some soft tissue damage, the cause of which is unknown. So she uses a harness and has gotten used to it. All she wants to do is sit in your lap and be loved. She is a beautiful girl and her pictures do not do her justice. She is a great gal and deserves a chance. For additional information about Rose #7 please email Ann Hilchey at ann.hilchey@labs4rescue.org. Rose #7 is being fostered in Connecticut. Shasta #6 is a very sweet and loving girl. She gets along great with other dogs and loves people. She is medium activity level and loves being with her people. She rides well in the car. Shasta is around 2 years old or less and weighs 61 lbs. She would be a great addition to any home. Please fill out an application for Shasta if you are interested in giving her a great home. January 12, 2018 Update from Shasta's Foster Mom in Connecticut: "Shasta is a puppy in appearance and personality! She has thick, soft fur on her head and neck, meaty paws, and a love of lap-sitting. She likes to run around in the backyard; exploring, digging, and romping. When she comes inside she wants nothing more than cuddle time on the couch with you or a nice chew toy in her bed. Shasta wants to run and play almost as much as she wants to sit with you for a 30 minute belly rub! Shasta wants to be near her people, but doesn't have separation anxiety. She follows me from room to room in the house, but she lets me leave without incident. Then, she's puppy-excited when I return. Shasta is a special girl who would do well with a patient, playful, but disciplined household (pups need limits). She is full of love and curiosity and boundless snuggles." For additional information about Shasta #6 please email Marla Cox at mclabs4rescue@gmail.com. Shasta #6 is being fostered in Connecticut.
